Paris, France, June 5, 2026 – SINOMED today announced that two clinical trials focusing on Intracranial Atherosclerosis (ICAS) have been selected for inclusion in the LINNC 2026 Trials Book. The selected trials: BASIS and NOVA represent significant advances in the endovascular treatment of symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (sICAS).
BASIS – Balloon Angioplasty for Symptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis
The BASIS randomized trial evaluated balloon angioplasty combined with aggressive medical management versus medical management alone in patients with severe sICAS. Results demonstrated that balloon angioplasty plus aggressive medical therapy significantly reduced the risk of stroke and death compared to medical management alone, marking a pivotal step forward for endovascular treatment in this field.
NOVA NEO™ – Intracranial Drug-Eluting Stent System vs. Bare-Metal Stents in Symptomatic High-Grade Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis
The multicenter randomized NOVA trial evaluated the NOVA NEO™ intracranial drug-eluting stent , the world’s first balloon-expandable DES specifically designed for ICAS, compared to bare-metal stents in patients with symptomatic high-grade intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis. Results demonstrated a significantly lower rate of in-stent restenosis and reduced stroke recurrence with the NOVA DES compared to bare-metal stents, supporting drug-eluting stents as a more effective treatment option for sICAS patients.
Selection by LINNC – the global reference for neurointerventional trials, reflects SINOMED’s ongoing commitment to advancing the evidence base for ICAS and improving outcomes for stroke patients worldwide.
About NOVA NEO™
NOVA NEO™ is the world’s first drug-eluting stent and the first healing-targeted stent developed specifically for neurointerventional treatment of symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS).
